About the team At Ironwood Digital, the Operator Tooling team plays a critical role as the Guardians of the Financial Ecosystem. We build intricate solutions to streamline our internal workflows, enabling over 8,000 human agents to make informed decisions about how different actors use our products—ensuring compliance with laws and Ironwood Digital policies. Our work tackles high-impact challenges, such as enabling efficient decision making and action on preventing illegal transactions (e.g., fraud, drugs, weapons, and terrorism financing), and other risks in the financial landscape—all with the goal of resolving issues quickly and correctly for our merchants and their clients. We operate across multiple products, with a tech stack that includes Ruby, React, GraphQL, and MongoDB, alongside essential tools like GitHub, Logscale, and Grafana. Full ownership is the ultimate green flag for us, but here are some high-level expectations. Responsibilities Recruit, coach, and develop a team of exceptional engineers. Lead the development of our operations tooling, providing reliable, user-first surfaces that just feel natural. Cultivate a culture of engineering excellence, innovation, and user empathy. Drive your engineering team toward exceptional technical quality, reliability, scalability, and operational excellence. Provide hands-on technical leadership to your engineering team across multiple areas, including architecture, design, code reviews, quality assurance, and incident management. Who you are We're looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. Minimum requirements 8+ years of professional hands-on software development experience 2+ years of experience leading software engineering teams Hands-on experience designing and building large-scale distributed systems A track record of managing and mentoring junior and senior engineers Customer obsession, ability to articulate and represent customer experience in various forums to drive the right outcome that benefits our customers A track record of attracting and hiring top talent and growing teams Demonstrated ability to define and drive complex initiatives and projects across multiple teams Proven success with cross-discipline and cross-team collaborations Preferred qualifications Experience building and operating highly scalable, data-intensive services Experience building and operating observability solutions, such as designing and building telemetry collections, data transport and storage solutions, and composable UI architectures We don't expect deep expertise in every dimension above, but we look for genuine interest in learning any of the less familiar areas.
